Vernon Parish 4-H members attend Capitol event in Baton Rouge

A group of Vernon Parish 4-H members traveled to Baton Rouge to participate in 4-H and FFA Day at the Capitol.

Students representing the parish included Abby Welch of Vernon Parish Homeschool 4-H, Imoen Dixon of Hicks High School, Willow Patterson of Rosepine High School, Luke McDonald of Faith Training Christian Academy, and RaeLynn Miller of Simpson High School.

During the visit, participants observed government operations, learned about the legislative process, and represented Vernon Parish 4-H at the statewide event.

The group also met with Senator Mike Reese, Representative Rodney Schamerhorn, and State Representative Charles “Chuck” Owen, Louisiana House District 30, who spoke with the students about their roles and encouraged youth involvement in leadership and public service.

Organizers said the experience provided an opportunity for students to engage in civic learning and develop leadership skills.
