
At approximately 2:50 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025, the Leesville Police Department was contacted by Leesville High School in reference to a student who was found to be in possession of a handgun on school property. Officers with Leesville Police Department and the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the high school. The initial investigation revealed that the student had the handgun in his possession and concealed in the waistband of his pants. There were no reports of any threats made with the weapon nor was anyone injured.
The student was identified as a 14-year-old male and was taken into custody by Leesville Police Department. The juvenile was charged with LA R.S. 14:95.2 Carrying of a Firearm by a Student on School Property and LA R.S. 14:95.8 Illegal Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile. The juvenile remains in custody at this time.
The Leesville Police Department will continue to work together with our schools and the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s office to ensure the safety of the students as well as the faculty and staff.
