
Week three of the high school football season had mixed results for area fans. Leesville had a convincing 60-35 win at Many, playing second teamers in the second half. Rosepine lost to powerful Kinder, 50-8. Beaten up, battered, Pickering fell to Northwood/Lena 28-7. Coach John Daugherty was suspended by the school board for one game for a violation of LHSAA procedures. He was not on the sidelines for the game with the Gators.
PICKERING
The Big Red fell to Northwood/Lena 28-7. Pickering lost three more players to injury, including one for the season. They are down to the third QB on the depth chart. Starting QB AJ Berry is expected to recover from a broken hand in maybe two more weeks. Backup LJ Witte was 6/15 passing for 79 yards, one TD and one INT. Witte hit wide receiver Ladarius Privitera for a 24-yard score. Privitera finished with four receptions for 67 yards. He also rushed the ball four times for 43 yards. Braden Ford led the Red Devils in rushing with 62 yards on 15 carries.
Pickering(1-2) will be at the Merryville Panthers Thursday night, September 26 for a 7pm kickoff. Merryville is 2-1 with wins over North Central(50-6) and last week over Lasalle(30-14). They lost to Vinton, 40-14

LEESVILLE
The Wampus Cats moved to 2-1 on the season with a convincing 60-35 road win at 0-3 Many. The tone of the game was set early. On Leesville’s first possession, at their 42-yard line, sophomore quarterback Trel Broom hit wide receiver Mike Davis for a 58-yard TD pass. Following a Many fumble, Broom hit Julius Brown with a long pass(40+ yds.) down to the Tiger three yard line. Broom found Deandre Herron with a short pass for a TD. Broom finished the first half 8/12/177 yards and 4 TD’s. He also found Davis for another 40-yard score and Davion Brtek for a 14-yard score. Leesville led 48-21 at the half.
All State running back Xavier Ford found the endzone three times in limited action. He finished with six rushes for 98 yards. For the season, the senior has amassed 796 yards rushing and 15 TD’s in just three games. Leesville’s leading rusher was freshman Grant Fletcher who ran 11 times for 162 yards and 2 TD’s. Leesville played their number two starters the second half. Christian Delapp kicked six extra points on special teams.
Defensively, Leesville was led by junior defensive back, DeMaurion England with nine tackles. Senior linebacker Vernon Stewart had two tackles for losses, while Amonte Miles recovered a fumble. Ethan Stewart and Jaylon Tucker each had an interception for the Wampus Cats.
4A Leesville (2-1) will host 5A Pineville (2-1) Friday night in Wampus Cat Stadium at 7pm. Pineville has wins over Tioga (39-36) and Avoyelles (35-20). They opened the season with a 34-25 loss to New Iberia.

ROSEPINE
The Eagles fell to 0-3 on the season last Thursday with a 50-8 loss to Kinder. Brynnum Chaney had the lone touchdown run of 19 yards. He also rushed for the two-point conversion. Chaney totaled 120 yards on 20 carries. Quarterback Gabe McKee was 2 of 7 passing for 14 yards.
Rosepine travels to Youngsville Friday for a non-district matchup with 3-0 Ascension Episcopal. Gametime is 7pm. The Blue Gators have beaten Kaplan 23-6, Archbishop Hannan 31-7, and Abbeville 38-14 to open the season.
