Leesville City Council Met September 23

2024-25 Leesville Mayor’s Youth Council

The Leesville City Council met Monday, September 23, at 3 p.m.  Preceding the meeting, Mayor Pro Temp, Phillip Hunt, administered the oath of office to the new members of the Mayor’s Youth Council.  Hunt told the youth that he looked forward to hearing their ideas for the City.

Monthly bills for the City totaled $63,923.70.  Two requests for payment on the DCIP Runway Extension Project at the Leesville Municipal Airport were received.  The request from Terracon was for $10,000.  The request from Infrastructure Consulting and Engineering was for $66,233.85.  Council members approved both requests.

City Engineer, Mark McCarty, reported on the City Street Overlay Project.  Nearly all of the asphalt prep work is complete.  Overlay work will begin next week.

Council members passed three resolutions.  The first was to request the LA DOTD, Division of Aviation to provide funds required for improvements to the Leesville Municipal Airport and to authorize the Mayor to sign and execute the agreement.  The second resolution will enter the City into a Cooperative Endeavor agreement with the State of Louisiana, Facility, Planning and Control to receive Capital Outlay Funds for the Ft. Johnson Entrance Road Fire Substation. The Mayor will sign and execute the agreement.  The third resolution is to renew a service agreement with Communication Construction Services, Inc. dba American Warrior Network for internet services relative to the Ft. Johnson Vegetation Contract.  The Mayor will sign and execute the agreement.

City Administrator Patti Larney announced that since the popular “Witch Way to Main Street” event would take place on Thursday, October 31, city-wide trick or treating will also take place in the City from 6 – 8 p.m. on that day.
