Vernon Parish Police Jurors took their Oaths of Office on the steps of the Historic Courthouse in downtown Leesville Monday, December 8 at 9:45 a.m.  Vernon Parish Clerk of Court Jeff Skidmore administered the swearing in and paperwork.   Following a brief reception, Jurors held their first regular meeting of 2024.

James ”Jim” Tuck was re-elected President of the Police Jury.  Curtis Clay will again serve as Vice President.  The voting was unanimous from their fellow Jurors.

The Police Jury will hold meetings in 2024 on the second Monday (5 p.m.) and the third Monday (10 a.m.) of every month.  The meeting next month, however, will be pushed back to Tuesday, February 20, at 10 a.m. due to the Presidents Day holiday on Monday, February 19.

Jurors stepped away from the meeting to hold a brief public hearing on the proposed sale of some adjudicated property.  The Jury had declared the property surplus.  B & J Limited Properties will pay $29,000.00 for the property.  There were no public comments.  Jurors returned to the meeting and authorized the sale.

In other business, Jurors voted to pay all invoices as presented. Curtis Clay spoke on behalf of Districts 10-11-12 in reference to a retiring foreman.  Mr. Bo Cryer has been hired to fill the position.  He will job shadow for a time before filling that position.
