Obituary: Anna Sonnier

Funeral services for Anna Sonnier, 88, of Leesville, were held at 1:30 P.M. on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at St. Michael’s the Archangel Catholic Church in Leesville, with Father Kenneth Michiels officiating.  Burial  followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Labby Funeral Home.  .

Anna was born on April 24, 1935 in Maurice, Louisiana to her parents, Benjamin and Laura Catalon. She passed away on August 29, 2023 at home with her loving family by her side.

Anna loved her family and friends with all her heart. Her three sons, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren were her happiness. She loved St. Michael’s Church and always put God first.  Anna loved to read, sew, make jewelry, do arts & crafts, and play games with her family and friends.  

She was a stockroom manager at AAFES for 15 years and was Employee of the Quarter twice.  She did volunteer work at Byrd Hospital for many years, always willing to help.  She was a member of the St. Michael’s Lady Auxiliary and Ladies Circle.  Anna was very active at her church.  She also belonged to the Mayor’s Women Commission, Pilots Club, and was a Lifetime Member of the Retired American Legion.

Left to cherish her memory are her three sons, Jim Sonnier and his spouse, Charlotte Sonnier, of Leesville, Craig Sonnier, and Donald Sonnier, both of Leesville; 6 grandchildren, Jean Paul Sonnier, Ryan Sonnier Rivera and her spouse, Isaiah, Phillip Sonnier, India Brooks and her spouse, Christopher, Robert Brandt, and Benjamin Brandt; and 6 great-grandchildren, Cameron McClung, Austin Brooks, AnnaLynn Brooks, Noah Sonnier, Hallie Hickerson and Madden Rivera; her brothers, Benjamin Catalon Jr. and Harold Catalon, sisters Delores Melancon and Eva Dell Woods, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Laura Catalon; her husband, James Sonnier, sister, Mary Ann Dalcour; and grandson, Jordan Sonnier.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are

Rick Wilson, David Williams, Sam Williams, Isaiah Rivera, Robert Brandt, and Benjamin Brandt. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Cameron McClung, Christopher Brooks, Logan Wilson, Joseph Figueroa, and Mike Anderson.

The family would like to thank Susan and David Williams, Sam and Brook Williams, Jennifer and Matt Williamson, Donna Wilson, Nicole Shelton-Ybarra, Olivia McKee, and Bobbie DePerrodil for all the love and support they’ve given over the years.
