The Vernon Parish Police Jury has closed the roadway leading to Vernon Lake Park, effective immediately, until the lake refills with water.

According to the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office (VPSO), the closure follows multiple incidents involving individuals riding ATVs and driving vehicles onto the exposed lake bed.

VPSO deputies have responded to several reports of vehicles becoming stuck in the lake bed, as well as complaints involving individuals building fires in the area.

The Sheriff’s Office stated that the area will be heavily patrolled until the lake refills.
