Leesville honors James Deans Sr. on 100th birthday

The City of Leesville recently honored James Deans Sr. as he celebrated his 100th birthday, recognizing a century of service, leadership, faith, and dedication to family and community.

Born June 15, 1926, in West Point, Mississippi, Deans has spent a lifetime exemplifying commitment to others through military service, business leadership, and community involvement.

On June 13, Leesville City Councilman Phillip Hunt represented the city during a special visit with Deans ahead of his milestone birthday. The visit coincided with a proclamation from Mayor Rick Allen recognizing Deans’ many contributions to the nation and the Leesville community.

Deans honorably served in the United States Army for 30 years, completing assignments in Germany, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, Korea, and India. Following his retirement from military service in March 1975, he continued serving the community as owner and operator of Able Taxi Company, where he built lasting relationships with residents throughout the area.

A faithful member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, Deans has remained committed to his faith and community throughout his life.

On Dec. 26, 1948, he married Inez Jackson, and together they raised six children: Margaret, James Jr., Lynette, Linda, Michael, and David. City officials noted that the values of integrity, service, and perseverance demonstrated by Deans have been passed on through generations of his family.

In recognizing his 100th birthday, city leaders praised Deans’ life as a testament to duty, family, faith, and service.

The City of Leesville extended its gratitude and best wishes to Deans as he celebrated the milestone occasion, honoring a legacy that has touched countless lives across the community.
