The West Vernon Parish Waterworks District has issued a boil advisory for residents in the Lake Vernon Road area after a main water line break caused problems with the system’s water supply.
According to officials, the break has resulted in water of questionable microbiological quality, prompting the precautionary advisory.
The boil advisory affects all of Lake Vernon Road and all intersecting roads connected to it. The advisory will remain in effect until it is rescinded by the water system following testing and approval from the Louisiana Department of Health’s Office of Public Health.
Residents in the affected area are advised to disinfect their water before using it for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, preparing food or rinsing foods. Water should be boiled for one full minute in a clean container, beginning after the water reaches a rolling boil.
Officials said the advisory will be lifted once additional water samples confirm the system’s water supply is safe. Until that time, residents are urged to continue boiling water prior to consumption.
