Division III Select    The Rosepine Eagles advanced to the Division III Select semifinals with an amazing quarterfinals win last week over three time defending state champ, Isidore Newman High of New Orleans, 65-57.

Last night’s semifinal game vs #1 Calvary Baptist of Shreveport marks the first state tournament experience for Rosepine since 1991.

The game against the “Greenies” in the quarterfinal round was tied at 38-38 entering the final quarter.  Rosepine went on an 11-2 run to open the stanza.  The Eagles converted 14 of 18 free throws in the quarter to seal the game.  Hayden Brister led the Eagles with 31 points, including 17 in the fourth period.  Point guard Emmanuel Brownlee had a clutch three-point shot and several buckets down the stretch for Rosepine.

The Eagles had won 25 straight games heading into the semis.  The Cavaliers of Calvary Baptist were 25-3 in the regular season.  The three losses came by a total of five points.

Vernon quarterfinal results

Class B   #5 Hicks fell to #4 Simsboro, 77-63, to finish the season with a 31-8 record.

#7 Pitkin dropped a 50-33 decision at #2 Avoyelles Public Charter.  The Tigers finished with a mark of 30-11.

Class C  #7 Hornbeck fell to #2 Plainview, 72-53, to finish the season 18-10.
