
Girls’ basketball hits the playoff stage of the season this week with the boys’ playoffs coming a week later. High school wrestling is gaining a foothold in West Central Louisiana. The state wrestling titles were handed out this past weekend at the Brookshire’s Arena in Bossier City.
WRESTLING
Rosepine’s young wrestlers came to scrap on the mats and had some great individual performances and an overall team finish of 20th in the state. Eleven Eagle wrestlers scored 138 points total at the state meet for Division III Select schools.
Kyler Yost took second place in the 106 lb. weight class. Hunner Glaze took second in the 126 lb. class. Caleb Preece got second in the 190 lb. division. Jackson Carter gained a third-place finish in the 144 lb. division. Kolson Yost got fifth place in the 113 lb. weight class. Daxtyn Curry got a sixth-place finish in the 132 lb. weight class and Zach Preece earned a sixth-place finish in the 138 lb. division.
Nathan Preece, David Akenji, Brent Bourget and Carson Broussard also scored points in the Eagles’ effort.
Athletes from South Beauregard High had a great state meet with a high team finish and several individual weight class winners.
POWERLIFTING
Former Pickering football player and weightlifter, Logan Sneed, continues his lifting success while a student at Northwestern State University.
Sneed competed in the United States Powerlifting Association’s, Rachet City Rumble in Shreveport last weekend. Competing in the 18-19 Junior division, Sneed set three national records, taking first place in the 308 lb. weight division. Sneed had a 551 lb. squat, a 523 lb. deadlift and bench pressed 281 lbs. Logan also set four new Louisiana state records.
