
Leesville City Police officers responded to a shooting incident during the early hours of Sunday, February 9, at The Legacy Grooming Lounge parking lot on South Fifth Street in Leesville.
Multiple individuals were involved in an altercation when one of them began shooting then fled the scene, according to authorities. Three people were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. One of them, 30-year-old Trevon Hairston of Leesville, was pronounced deceased from his wounds. The other two shooting victims were transported to different hospitals for treatment.
A suspect, 22 year-old Jamel Weaver of Leesville turned himself in to authorities late Sunday afternoon. He was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder, Attempted Second Degree Murder, Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instruments.
Leesville Police Chief Beth Westlake thanked the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office, New Llano Police and the Louisiana State Police for their assistance in responding to the situation.
