Thursday, October 3, the Vernon Parish School Board spent extra time at their regular meeting discussing how area school officials and law enforcement would handle threats in the school system.  A meeting was held at the end of September with all parties present to discuss scenarios that could occur.

Friday, October 4, the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office investigated a threat made on social media toward Pickering High School.  A 14-year-old juvenile was detained in connection with the threat.  The suspect was responsible for creating a fake social media account and posting the threat.  The suspect was transported to the Vernon Parish Jail and was arrested and charged with one count of Menacing, one count of Criminal Mischief, and one count of On-Line Impersonation.

There is ZERO TOLERANCE for any threats toward a Vernon Parish School.  Any person found to be engaging in such behavior, will be charged to the fullest extent of the law!
