District 30 State Representative Charles Owen introduced his new legislative assistant to the Leesville City Council two weeks ago. Longtime Beauregard Parish educator and administrator, Marlin Ramsey, recently replaced Ms. Donna Sikes, who retired from Owen’s office.
Ramsey spent 34 years in Louisiana education, 24 of them at South Beauregard where he was the principal for a dozen years. The McNeese graduate holds a Master’s in Counseling and is certified in administration. Ramsey retired from education in 2022.
Ramsey may be better known to many for his prowess on the basketball court where he has been an NCAA Division I official for 30 years. Ramsey also served on the Executive Board of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association for twelve years. He describes himself as a people person who listens to what others have to say.
In his capacity as an assistant to Owen, he will have ample opportunity to help residents solve problems. Concerns he has most recently heard include inflation, medical care, social security, and just getting through government “red tape.” He supports efforts locally for economic development, supporting area governmental bodies and school systems. He shared Owen’s concerns on the cost of insurance in Louisiana for everyone.
Ramsey has three children from a previous marriage: Allie, Ross, and Abby.
Representative Owen’s District 30 office is located in Rosepine. Ramsey can be reached at 337-460-8726.
