Leesville City Council Met July 22, 2024

The Leesville City Council met in regular session Monday, July 22, at 3 p.m. in City Hall.  Mayor Rick Allen was absent.  The meeting was led by Mayor Pro Temp Councilman Phillip Hunt.

Monthly bills of $69,713 were reported.  Twelve months into the fiscal year, the city has collected 106% of anticipated revenue and spent 93% of the budget.

Pay requests were received from Infrastructure Consulting & Engineering ($20,824) and Terracon ($6,500) for work at the Leesville Municipal Airport.  Two requests for payment on the Entrance Road Sewerage Project came from Meyer & Associates ($825) and Co-D Construction of LA, L.L.C. ($156,137).  The Ballpark Lighting Project received a pay request from Acadiana Lighting and Sign ($147,211).  Council members approved those requests for payment.

City Engineer Mark McCarty reported to Council members that clearing of land for the Entrance Road Sewage Project was nearing completion. The building for the lift station will go up next.  The 2024 street overlay project has been signed off on, and McCarty will have a firm date for the start of the project at the next Council meeting in August.

City Planner Grant Bush spoke in support of a resolution for the granting of a conditional use permit for Mr. Willie Thompson on his property at 102 Jackson Street.  Bush said all city regulations are being complied with in moving a modular home onto the site, replacing an existing structure.  Council members approved the resolution.  The Council also approved a resolution for the purchase of three new trucks for the Public Works Department and the Ft. Johnson Vegetation contract.  Council members passed a resolution to engage with the Vernon Parish School System and Ft. Johnson to implement a firefighter program at Leesville High.  Fire Chief Bobby Hooks will be available to act on behalf of the city in all matters related to the implementation of the program. With the improvements to the Leesville ballpark complex, Council members passed a resolution so the City will be able to grant a CDBG project amendment for the lift-station project.

Council members invited all of Vernon Parish to the City Splash, Dash & Roll event on August 10 in downtown Leesville.    The next meeting of the Leesville City Council is scheduled for Monday, August 12, at 3 p.m.
