The Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office has been contacted by a citizen who indicated that they received a phone call from an unknown person who identified themselves as being a Deputy with the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office.

 

Caller ID displayed the 337-238-1311 number of the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office. Often times, persons conducting such scams will use mobile apps to disguise their phone number. These apps can also display any number that the caller chooses to use.

 

During the course of the phone call the citizen was advised that they had failed to appear for federal jury duty and requested $ 600.00 be sent to avoid arrest.

 

VPSO nor any other law enforcement agency will contact you by phone nor will they request any type of payment to avoid arrest.

 

If you are contacted by this type of caller please hang up immediately and DO NOT send any funds as they cannot be recovered.
