The Leesville Wampus Cats continued their march to the playoffs with a Senior Night win over Eunice last Friday.  Pickering won their second straight game, and Rosepine has only one shot left at avoiding a winless season.

PICKERING

The Big Red won their second straight game, with a 26-6 win over Ringgold last Friday night.  QB A.J. Berry is finally healthy, and he scored running and passing TD’s in Pickering’s third win of the year. Pickering is not playing for district honors this year.

Berry had only three passes on the night but one was a 47-yard scoring toss to Ladarius Privitera.  Berry rushed for 283 yards and two scores, as he shredded the Ringgold defense.  The Pickering offense got 42 yards rushing from Braden Ford and a rushing TD from Israel Araiza.  Bryan Dedios and Ricardo Sastre each had PAT kicks.

Defensively, Privitera picked off two passes and linemen recovered two fumbles.  Hunter Noel recovered a fumble and had five tackles in the game.  Augustus James forced a fumble and recovered it to go along with his four tackles.

Pickering (3-6) will finish the regular season Friday, hosting Plain Dealing (0-9) from District 1-A.  Game time is 7 p.m. at O’Banion Stadium.

LEESVILLE

The Leesville Wampus Cats were slow starters for the second week in a row before igniting and blasting Eunice 42-15 last Friday.  Leesville trailed 7-6 after the first quarter, and Eunice had the ball inside the Leesville red zone, but Jordan Patterson forced a fumble that ended the drive.  The Leesville defense was challenged by the run-heavy Bobcat offense.  Razion Taylor, Masyn Williams, and Jacob Pajinag led a stout effort that bottled up the run.

Leesville led 12-7 at halftime on a 5-yard scoring run by Xavier Ford and a one-yard plunge by Trel Broom.

The fires were lit in the locker room at the break, and Leesville took over in the second half.  Ford ripped off three scores, and Broom hit Davion Brtek with a 55-yard TD pass to blow the game open.  Ford finished 275 yards rushing and four TD’s.  With one regular season game to play, Ford has 7526 career rushing yards and 103 TD’s.  Ford will need 310 yards to pass all-time LHS rushing leader Cecil Collins.  Ford is the all-time scoring leader.  Broom was 7/11/151 yards passing as he continues to spread the wealth amongst his young receivers.  Ju-Ju Brown had four catches for 50 yards to lead the receivers.

Leesville football fans may want to make the trip to Lake Charles Friday night to see if Ford can make LHS football history by passing Collins.  The Leesville offense will want to get those yards for Ford!

Kickoff at Lagrange is 7 p.m.  The game can be heard on the radio with KJAE-FM/93.5.

ROSEPINE

Offense was in short supply again for the Eagles in their 49-6 loss to DeQuincy last week.  Their lone score came on a 5-yard run by Devin Janice.  The two-point conversion run by Brynnum Chaney was denied.

Chaney led Rosepine with 74 yards rushing, including a 32-yard romp.  Janice had 28 yards rushing on the night.  The Eagles are facing a winless season (0-9/0-4 District 4-2A) and must travel Friday night to face the East Beauregard Trojans (1-7/0-2 Dist. 4-2A) in Dry Creek.

Late Monday afternoon, Rosepine Athletic Director, Tim Kyle, announced the school and Head Coach, Fred Rosegrant, have mutually agreed to part ways.  Rosegrant was in his first year at the helm in Rosepine.  Coach David Weldon will lead the team at East Beauregard as their interim head coach.  The game can be heard on the radio at KVVP-FM/105.7.  Kickoff is 7 p.m.
