Marion was born January 29, 1934, and passed away surrounded by her family on the afternoon of November 4, 2023, at the age of 89 after a period of illness. Marion was born in Jackson County near the Morales Community of Edna, Texas where she lived until moving to Houston, Texas at the age of 14 and graduated from Jeff Davis High School. In 1953, she married Wesley and during her lifetime (at the ‘request’ of the U.S. Army), she lived in California and Texas before settling in Leesville, Louisiana in 1963. Her travels also included a brief two-year tour of duty to Okinawa, Japan in 1967. From the 1950’s into the 1970’s Marion worked as an analog telephone operator and then worked at Fort Polk as an education supervisor. Marion enjoyed flowers, and quilting was her passion. She was a member of various sewing clubs including the Leesville Quilting Club, and her beautiful homemade quilts won many awards. Marion was also a member of the Homemaker’s Club and was in the Eastern Star for over 50 years. For over 70 years, she was a faithful Baptist church member. Next to her Lord, her family was the most important thing to her.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Augustas Whitley and Lily O. Hadley Golden.
