Leesville Wide Receiver Jackson Bealer

LEESVILLE

The Leesville Wampus Cats fell to 2-3 on the season after dropping a 54-12 decision to Opelousas at home last Friday night.  Leesville unveiled a pass-heavy attack.  QB Corbett Robbins threw for a career high 223 yards and a pair of TD passes to Isiah Farley, but Leesville got thumped by the bigger Tigers.

Opelousas scored 24 points in the first half and 30 in the second half.  Opelousas QB Zackeus Malveaux completed 5/13 passes for 57 yards and four TD’s.  He also rushed for 76 yards.  Junior RB D’Shaun Ford led the Tigers in rushing yards with 208 yards and four TD’s (22-41-42-4).

Leesville’s two scores came on a 35-yard pass from Robbins to Farley in the first half. The duo combined for a 36 yarder in the second half.  Leesville’s All State Junior RB Xavier Ford was held to 57 yards rushing, the second straight game he has been held to under 100 yards. 

Leesville was led defensively by Evan Combs (9 tackles), Kade Manci (7) and Rashad Johnson (6).

Leesville’s next game is Thursday, October 5, at 7 p.m. against Washington-Marion (1-4).   The game can be heard live on radio station KJAE-FM/93.5.

ROSEPINE

A week after showing signs of life offensively, the Rosepine Eagles took a step backward in a 16-0 loss at DeQuincy last Thursday.  The Eagles rushed for under 100 yards and were 2/5 passing with no yards.  Lane Willis had 49 yards rushing while Cobey Collins chipped in with 43 yards on the ground.  Defensively the Eagles were led by Collins with five tackles, Josh Peak with four, and Gabe Leslie with four.

DeQuincy scored on a 12-yard field goal by Junior kicker Kohen Cormier, a nine-yard pass from Carson Rainwater to Clifford Jones, and a two-yard run by Jecourius Griffin.  The Tigers improved to 1-4 on the year.

Rosepine (2-3) hosts Logansport(4-1) Friday October,6 at 7pm. The game can be heard live on KVVP-FM/105.7.

PICKERING

The Pickering Red Devils continue to struggle, falling to Lake Arthur last week 56-7.  With the loss, Pickering fell to 0-5 on the year. Xavier Mitchell led Pickering with 8 carries for 91 yards and the lone Red Devil score.  Jaden Mizera chipped in 42 yards rushing on seven carries.  Pickering was 0/9 passing with one interception.  Lineman/punter Logan Sneed had four punts, including two that died inside the 20-yard line of Lake Arthur.

Pickering (0-5) entertains Holy Savior Menard High School (2-3) Friday night, October 6, 7 p.m. at O’Banion Stadium.
