
The Vernon Parish Police Jury met in a special session on Monday, September 11, at 4:50 p.m. The called meeting consisted of approving motions to sell outdated equipment at a public auction in Sulphur, Louisiana. Jurors also approved a request from District 9 for soil cement and asphalt on almost 500 feet of VFW Road. District 9 funds will be used to pay for the nearly $29,000 project.
During the regular meeting at 5 p.m., Jurors heard from Ms. Jessica Herring on the lack of information available to the public during the August wildfires. She asked jurors to consider a Public Information Specialist who would work with various media outlets to better communicate with the public in times of emergency situations.
The Finance Committee reported invoices from Merrick LLC for overlay work of $237,549. Merrick submitted an additional invoice of $19,940 for lime conditioning. R.C. Paving presented an invoice for more than $246,000 for asphalt work in Vernon Parish.
Police Jurors received applications for liquor license permits for the Dollar General Store at 19718 Lake Charles Highway and the Dollar General Store at 797 Alexandria Highway. They have met all the requirements to be issued a license.
The next Vernon Police Jury meeting is Monday, September 25, at 10 a.m.
