Vernon Parish wildfires broke out again at the end of August following the worst month for fires in Louisiana history. Fires reported near Pitkin and Highway 113 two weeks ago flared up again last week. The fire on Lions Camp Road started again over the Labor Day weekend, threatening nearly 700 acres. Federal authorities on the scene were setting up dozer lines in the event of more flare-ups.
The Tiger Island Team that has battled the huge blaze in Beauregard Parish moved their headquarters last Friday to the new Vernon 911 Center on Woodham Road. They continue to fight and monitor fires from Beauregard and Vernon Parishes.
For current information on the fires, go to the Facebook page: Hwy 113 & Lions Camp Road Fires-La. They offer up-to-date information daily on a continuing basis.
The statewide burn ban continues across Louisiana. Law enforcement agencies are writing citations for violations of the ban!
